Please note the following announcements and upcoming events:

HELP!  We're having a BEAR PROBLEM!

This bear is getting into garbage cans and looking for food all over the club.  He's rummaging through the cans and releasing papers, soda cans, and many sandwich wrappers to be blown everywhere by the wind.  It's becoming a huge mess.

Everyone, PLEASE, place all food containers and wrappings of any kind into the dumpster,
or better yet, take them home for disposal.

NOTICE  to  ALL

The INDOOR RANGE is
Closed
Until Further Notice
Due to a Safety Concern

We have discovered a spot on the back concrete wall which has been shot through!  It is possible that a bullet could exit the range and fly toward an occupied area on another range.  Several other spots on the concrete wall are also showing signs of damage and may be in danger of shoot-through.  View some photos of the damage.

We are planning repairs to the concrete wall, and we are developing a plan to mitigate any further damage.  We are fortunate that the problem was discovered early before anyone was endangered.  We are also fortunate that the range closing and the repairs can take place during the summer season when range usage is light and disruption to club programs will be minimal.

Would you feel safer putting up a sign which declares

"This Home is a Gun-Free Safe Zone"?

All members are reminded that their guests must sign in (print their full name and sign) at the membership information center and sign-in kiosk before shooting and hunting.  Each guest must pay the $3 guest fee.  Follow the instructions on the sign-in form: print and sign names, one name per block, list ranges used, indicate fees paid.  Guests must be escorted at all times.  Failure to comply with this requirement is a serious infraction of your membership agreement and is subject to severe sanction.  (For your privacy and security, members need only sign in using their Member Number and first name.)

Owners of Ruger SR9™ pistols should contact Sturm, Ruger ASAP regarding a safety issue and product upgrade recall.  More information is available here.

Shooting at steel targets presents inherent risks of ricochet and splashback.
Remember the plate range rules:  No magnums.  No bottle neck cartridges.  15 yard minimum distance.  No cross firing.   FULL eye protection (front, top, & sides).

Pavilion construction on the rifle range is now in progress.  The range will be closed as needed during the building phase.  Work should be completed near the end of April.  Please check the rifle committee website for range closures and reports.

The next monthly outdoor IDPA-style Matches is June 7.  The event is limited to 30 shooters and is presently filled-up.  There will be a mandatory "shooter meeting" at 9:30 AM SHARP on the morning of the match. An IDPA Match Registration form is posted.  For additional information contact Randy.

The Spring/Summer Outdoor Bullseye program began April 17.  The 11-week program runs through June 26.  There's a single relay at  6:00 pm; 60 rounds, $3.00.  Scores and averages are posted.  For additional information contact Randy.

The Monday evening Smallbore Metallic Silhouette program began April 21 and continues through May 30.  The event starts at 6:15 pm.  .22LR rimfire rifle only, any action, any sights.  Targets are 1/5-sized at 40, 60, 77, and 100 yards.  Cost is $35 for adults, $10 for juniors (17 and younger).  Contact Ron to pre-register or for additional information.

Visit the Rifle Committee's web site for scores and the latest information on OSC rifle events: www.freewebs.com/oscrifle.

USPSA-style pistol is coming to OSC.  Introductory matches are scheduled for May 31 and August 30.  A USPSA Match Registration form is posted.  For additional information contact Pat Cronin.

The NRA Basic Pistol and NRA Personal Protection in the Home handgun courses will be conducted on June 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18 from 6:00-8:30 pm and on June 21 from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.  This is excellent training from NRA Certified Instructors.  Class size is limited to 20.  Contact Randy for additional information .

The Special Events Committee announces that enrollment is now open for the NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading and the NRA Basic Shotgun Shell Reloading courses.  These courses are for beginners.  The metallic cartridge course will cost $40; the shot shell course will cost $35.  Class meeting dates and times will be determined based on enrollment.  Prospective students can visit the course information page to learn more and to submit an enrollment form.  Students should also submit the registration survey.  Contact Eric if you have questions not addressed on the course information page.

Is there any interest in a muzzleloading pistol program?  Maybe a couple of evening or Saturday afternoon events in the late spring, mid-summer, and early fall?  Maybe a mix of bullseye-style qualification targets, some cowboy-style steel plates, and some plate rack speed shooting?  If you might have an interest in starting up a new program next year, fill out and e-mail an interest survey form.  Contact Eric if you're interested in developing this project.

In the meantime, read more about the NRA Muzzleloading Pistol Qualification program.

The scheduled dates of Range Reservations (and closings) has been updated through May.

The Pistol Committee 2008 Schedule of Events is slowly being compiled.  The listing will also include select rifle, shotgun, and training events.

Find something wrong at the club?  Report a Problem to Building & Grounds.

Pistol shooters especially should be aware of recent rule changes for NRA sanctioned competitions requiring the use of "Empty Chamber Indicators" and the modified range commands associated with the devices.  OSC bullseye shooters are now using the indicators on the firing line since we have acquired a supply of the devices.  It's our intention to provide a safe shooting environment, and the use of Empty Chamber Indicators will be required.  (This will also be good practice for when you do shoot in formal competitions.)  Read more about the NRA pistol rule changes.

Note:  The green empty chamber indicators supplied on the indoor range are made of plastic, not steel.  If you bend them too much they will break!  This first batch was acquired for use on the indoor range.  All shooters should plan to acquire (purchase!) a few of these indicators since their use is required and they may not be provided for you at other clubs/ranges.  Consider them as just a another shooting safety item, as basic as eye and ear protection.

To join the OSC you must apply in person.  The best way to join is to become active in an OSC shooting or training program.  You'll need membership sponsors anyhow, so show up, get acquainted, and get active.  Have your sponsor obtain the application for you, or come to a club meeting to apply in person.

Some OSC activities are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances, namely power interruptions.  If you have a lengthy drive to the club but suspect there may be a power problem, you are advised to call the clubhouse (355-4440).  If the answering machine responds, then at least you know the power is on.

Note: In an effort to reduce clutter, announcements which are more than 3 months old but may still be applicable have been move to a separate page.  Go to Old Announcements to read the old stuff.

OSC is a National Rifle Association affiliated club and a 100% NRA Member club.  Membership in the NRA is required for OSC membership.

"When You're Serious About The Shooting Sports"

The NRA-ILA's FrontLines program is comprised of the most dedicated and active volunteers who are willing to work vigorously with NRA-ILA, especially with your local NRA-ILA Election Volunteer Coordinator, to advance ILA's legislative and political agendas.

FrontLines is not for the faint of heart.  We are looking only for those willing and prepared to actively answer the call to defend our rights!  If you can't pledge a few hours of your time to defend our rights, then NRA-ILA FrontLines isn't for you.
